Random Boston Stuff Of Interest
Because I Feel Like It
It's stuff that catches my fancy. Much like the rest of this morass.
- A map of the Boston
area. I live in Medford.
- The Brattle
has its schedule wandering the Web. Yes, I like old/artsy movies. So sue me.
Actually, the whole page is
kinda cool. AND it has the Coolidge Corner Theater!
This site has only
independent and non-profit theaters, though.
- Yahoo's got a Boston version now.
I boggle.
- The Boston Phoenix, the
Boston equivalent of the Village Voice, is quite a nice paper.
- I admit to not actually exploring
this site yet, but it's got to be useful
somehow.
- And I know this
site is useful. Lots of info about lots of online resources.
- The gummint's online. Or, in
their terms, "The Commonwealth of Massachusetts - Massachusetts Access to
Government Network" They seem to have info out their ears .
- Augh. My
old high school is on the Web. To a minor degree.
- Tourist information from beyond Venus! I'd call
this pretty
thorough...
- Your car have problems?
Here's a list of reputable and less reputable auto mechanics.
- The MBTA is online. Look! Schedules!
- Hey. WCRB! Only radio station in town
[that I'll listen to. KISS 108 does not count.] with a web page!
Oh, well, and 'ZLX, I suppose.
- Hey, neat, WGBH has a web site. It even
has Zoom stuff!
- Annnnnnd now... The Museum of Science.
How odd.
- Even odder, the
Musuem of Fine
Arts is online. Though somewhat sketchily so. There's also a
list of
concerts at the MFA. They're quite wonderfully calm, soothing events.
- The best museum in Boston, though, is the Isabella Stewart Gardner Musuem. It's
wonderful !
- And then there's the Aquarium.
- Go on a Whalewatch, maybe?
- The Boston
another page for this, too, but it uses blink. And it's mostly the
Alterna Scene.
- Authors
doing stuff. Y'know, signings, readings, etc.
- If you want to do some self improvement for very little money and quite a
good return, try the Cambridge Center For
Adult Education.
- An "Art and Cultural Events List"
. It's sponsored by Sound Bites, so it's gotta be of some use.
- Just for my personal affections, there's the Handel and Haydn Society.
- For those who like clubs and things better, we have this little site.
- Oh, hey, and because they have both good food and good music,
Johnny D's.
- A bad comic book store, pretty good CDs.
Newbury Comics
- Million Year Picnic,
on the other hand, has no CDs and wonderful comic books.
- Pandemonium has
no comics at all, but a _lot_ of science fiction books.
- Boston
weather
- Ummm. Well. Look. Red Sox online.
- Looking for housing? Try
these folks. Or these
.
- I have a hard time imagining why you'd want a traffic report via the Web,
but stranger things have been useful to me. So, here's some
traffic.
- I like these folks,
actually. Not exactly an upscale ISP, that's for sure. (Low cost internet
access for folks who aren't usually exposed to it.)
- The Boston Restaurant Guide.
- And a somewhat dubious
" Worst of Boston"
food guide.
- And the very few late
night Boston restaurants. It's not a complete listing, though, 'cause it
doesn't mention Bickford's.
- A bunch of stuff to do on the
Charles River.
- Anything that's of any interest at all at MIT (and there's a lot) is
here. It's a good site.
- My local library has an online
catalog. Log in with username "library."
- The Boston Public Library's online,
too. Wonderful place.
- It's not my electric company, but it's a lot of other people's.
Boston Edison.
